From our very first graduate, Dr. Itzak Fischer (Ph.D. 1981), who is now at Drexel University as Professor and Chair of their Molecular Neurobiology department, to our current students finding their way, the Department of Biological Chemistry is very proud of the accomplishments of all its students.  We have grown tremendously in the past five years and currently have 42 students in the department at various stages completing their Ph.D.

Many graduate students have passed through our department with sixty-five of them graduating with a Ph.D. and ten of them holding a Master’s degree from our institution.  During the past academic year 07-08, eight of our students graduated with a PhD and one with a Master’s.

Dr. Chris Wiley is currently working for Dr. Judith Campisi at the Buck Institute for Age Research using his experience in epigenetics from UCI to dissect the changes in regulatory heterochromatin in senescent cells in the Campisi lab.

Our graduates have gone on to hold faculty positions across the country as well as management positions in industry around the globe.  Just to name a few major universities and companies who currently employ our graduates: Affymetrix, Allergan, Florida State University, GATC Biotech, National Center for Biotechnology Information, Oregon Health & Science University, Pfizer, University of Alabama, University of California, Irvine,  University of California, San Francisco, University of Minnesota.

We encourage alumni to contact the department with any updates.
